Who is your audience?

Recently I edited a wonderful book for someone about his life's journey, and he posted it on his website, seeking feedback from family and friends. Family had a mixed response, and for the moment he questioned his project. I was reminded that it takes an act of faith to write a book. We cannot see our real audience, the eye of the universe; we can only trust what we have to offer, as some flowers bloomed today despite the recent flooding.

Cat's Eye Nebula

This picture of a dying star, taken with the Hubble space telescope, reminds me of the Egyptian symbol for the all-seeing eye of God -- the universe is keeping an eye on us from 3,000 light years away.

What is the eye of the universe saying to you? Can you write with an eye on both the universal and your own unique vision?
